Ashen Tomes are a type of Bilge Rats Treasure in Sea of Thieves. Ashen Tomes come in various versions and chapters and are found inside Ashen Chests that need to be unlocked with Ashen Keys. All Ashen Tomes can be sold to the Bilge Rats at any Tavern for 10 . Alternatively, they can be sold to the Reaper's Bones for Doubloons and Reputation instead.
Selling all individual Ashen Tomes for the first time, and completing each set of tomes will unlock Ashen Dragon Set Cosmetics for purchase at Outpost Shops.
Where to Find[]
One random Ashen Tome is guaranteed to be found inside every locked Ashen Chest (requiring an Ashen Key to unlock), although it is possible to find additional Tomes inside a single Chest.
Ashen Chests can be found from the following sources:
- 1 Guaranteed as a reward for solving an Ashen Guardian's Notes Quest, dropped by Ashen Guardians that appear during Skeleton Fort World Events or on Islands as Emergent Skeleton Captain spawns
- 1 Guaranteed inside a completed Skeleton Fort Vault
- 3 Guaranteed after defeating the Captain's Ship of a Skeleton Fleet
- Chance to find on Skeleton Ships
- Possible reward for defeating a Kraken tentacle
- Possible reward for defeating a Megalodon
- Guaranteed reward for an Ashen Chest Stash Voyage, bought from the Black Market for 50
- Possible reward for defeating an Ashen Lord. These Chests are already unlocked and do not have a guaranteed Ashen Tome inside.
Ashen Keys can be found from the following sources:
- 1 Guaranteed as a reward for solving an Ashen Key Master's Notes Quest, dropped by Ashen Key Masters that appear during Skeleton Fort World Events or on Islands as Emergent Skeleton Captain spawns
- Low chance to be caught with a Fishing Rod as Treacherous Plunder when not using any Bait.
- 1 Guaranteed for an Ashen Key Stash Voyage, bought from the Black Market for 99 .
- Dug up from a Skeleton’s Orders Treasure Map as a part of the Time-Limited Ashen Key-Seeker Mercenary Voyages.

- Larinna stationed in every Tavern for Bilge Rat Doubloons
- The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper’s Hideout for Doubloons and Reaper's Bones Reputation and Emissary Value (if sailing as a Reaper's Bones Emissary)

Notes[]
- It is recommended to sell these Tomes to the Reaper's Bones instead of the Bilge Rats, as they will offer increasing Doubloon, Reputation and Emissary Value multipliers for selling these items to The Servant of the Flame as Graded Reaper's Bones Emissaries. This bonus applies to Ashen Chests and everything else inside as well.
- All Commendations related to selling Ashen Tomes can also be earned by selling them to the Reaper's Bones.
- Picking up and placing an Ashen Tome on a Ship for the first time gives Emissary Grade Reputation to Trading Company Emissaries representing the Reaper's Bones.
- Ashen Tomes can be stored inside any Container Chests.
- Ashen Tomes give off a White Glint from a distance.
- Ashen Tomes can be caught with a Harpoon
