Bilge Rat Treasures are the various unique Treasure Items that are not tied to specific Trading Companies and can be sold for Bilge Rat Doubloons to the Bilge Rats at every tavern of Sea of Thieves.
Mechanics[]
Bilge Rat Treasure Items account for all the Treasure Items that were introduced via Bilge Rat Adventures or Mercenary Voyages and can be sold to the Bilge Rats residing in every Tavern for Bilge Rat Doubloons and Bilge Rats Commendations instead of Gold and Reputation.
As with any other Transportable Items, only one Bilge Rat Valuable can be carried at a time. Players cannot use items or sprint at the same time as carrying these items. When dropped, most Bilge Rat Treasures will emit a White Glint from far away, making them easier to spot. Treasure Items will float to the top when dropped in Water, however they will start sinking to the bottom after 5 minutes. Chests dropped on land or on the shoreline will stay in-game virtually forever. Untouched Treasure Items will disappear when an Island respawns. Items that have been dropped in Deep Waters will disappear after sinking to the bottom. Every Bilge Rat Valuable can be caught with a Ship's Harpoon with the ones that can be held in one hand being able to be placed inside Container Chests.
Bilge Rat Treasures have unique locations, interactions or rewards tied to them.
With the introduction of the Reaper's Bones Trading Company, all Bilge Rats Treasures can also be sold to The Servant of the Flame for Doubloons and Reaper's Bones Reputation (and Emissary Value when sailing as Reaper's Bones Emissaries). Some of the previous Bilge Rat Treasures like Gifts and Reaper's Boxes that were sold to the Masked Stranger at The Reaper's Hideout have become Reaper's Bones Treasure items instead with them only being accepted by The Servant of the Flame stationed at the Hideout instead. As Players still earn Commendation progress for selling Bilge Rat Treasures to the Reaper's Bones with the addition of gaining Reputation and Emissary Value for a Company, it is no longer as beneficial to sell Bilge Rats Treasures to Duke in Taverns.
Emissary Mechanics[]
While the Bilge Rats do not send Player Crews on the seas as Emissaries, any Crews sailing as Reaper's Bones Emissaries still gain Emissary Grade Reputation when picking up and placing Bilge Rat Treasures on their Ships for the first time. This is because the Reaper's Bones value any and all Treasure stolen from other Companies. The higher the Crew's Emissary Grade, the more Doubloons, Reputation and Emissary Value they receive for selling Bilge Rat Treasures.
Rewards[]
All Bilge Rat Treasure Items reward Crews with Doubloons instead of Gold. Most Bilge Rat Valuables can be sold to Duke at any Outpost, however all Bilge Rat Treasure items can also be sold to The Servant of the Flame at The Reaper’s Hideout for Gold and Reaper's Bones Reputation (and Emissary Value). It is actually advisable to sell Bilge Rat Treasure items to the Reaper's Bones for the additional Reputation, potential Emissary Value and and Emissary Grade multipliers for each of these values.
Every Bilge Rat Treasure Item has Commendations related to selling them, which in turn either reward players with Titles (some time-limited) or unique Cosmetics.
The following is a table of the multiplicative Rewards for selling Bilge Rats Treasure as Graded Emissaries for Reaper's Bones.
Emissary Grade | Rewards, Reputation & Emissary Value |
---|---|
Grade 1 | Base Reward |
Grade 2 | +33% Base Reward |
Grade 3 | +67% Base Reward |
Grade 4 | +100% Base Reward |
Grade 5 | +150% Base Reward |
When sold, the whole Crew is rewarded with equal amounts of Doubloons, Reputation and Emissary Value, while Alliance Members will earn half of the Doubloon and Reputation Gains, but no Emissary Value.

Trivia[]
- Gifts and Reaper's Boxes used to be categorised as Bilge Rat Treasures as the Masked Stranger building The Reaper's Hideout accepted them as a Bilge Rat. She and Stitcher Jim betrayed Duke and set up the Reaper's Bones Company at the Hideout, which became the only company accepting these Treasure items.
- Ritual Skulls used to be one of the Dark Relics Treasures, sold to the Order of Souls. The Skull was later incorporated into summoning the Fort of the Damned Raid with the other Dark Relics being abandoned.
