The Headless Monkey, formerly the Mad Monkey, is the former ship of Kate Capsize found shipwrecked on the outskirts of Sailor's Grave during the A Pirate's Life Tall Tale. The ship's interior can be unlocked with the Headless Monkey Key, where five Tall Tale Journals can be found.

Lore[]

Before its days in the Sea of the Damned, the Mad Monkey was a legendary ship active somewhere in the Caribbean, likely in the waters of the Tri-Island Area. It's unknown when exactly the ship was active, only that by the time of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge the ship had been sunk long enough for its wreckage to be catalogued in the book Great Shipwrecks of Our Century by an unknown author.

Eventually, the pirate Guybrush Threepwood, with knowledge gained from the aforementioned book, would visit the ship's wreckage and pry the solid-gold head off the ship's namesake figurehead. Kate Capsize, a sailor and former proprietor of a ship chartering service, would eventually raise and restore the wreckage of the Mad Monkey with intent to use the ship to track down and likely kill Guybrush in the Sea of Thieves. Upon discovering Guybrush had quite literally defaced the ship's prized figurehead, Kate renamed the freshly raised ship the Headless Monkey.

The details of when or how the Headless Monkey would come to meet its final resting place are unknown, but neither Kate or her ship ever reached The Sea of Thieves. The ship, or Kate's memory of the ship, would become shipwrecked on the rocky outskirts of Sailor's Grave, and Kate would abandon the wreck for her prized Glass-Bottom Boat.
